Bumpkin Brewday

The first Bumpkin

Every year we brew a pumpkin beer inside a giant pumpkin. This tradition started small. One giant pumpkin and 4 brewers. Today, it has grown into an actual event. In 2013 we had two giant pumpkins, four brewers, and about thirty five assistant brewers. Cooking in a giant squash is quite the spectacle, to say the least. It’s a tradition that we will carry over to the brewery and that beer will only be available in the tasting room. Bumpkinfest, as we lovingly refer to the day, is all about collaboration. We brew one batch of Bumpkin and then we brew two other beers designed by guest brewers. This tradition has provided us with incredibly experimental batches. Our last batch this year ended up being a traditional Gose made with pumpkin pie spices. In past years we’ve brewed Dopplebock, ESB, Belgian Pales and Imperial Stouts.

Bumpkin-Labels

The labels allowed us to stretch our creativity. We played off of themes that fit the style and the talk around the brew deck. Our hope is always to catch the essence of those moments and freeze them on a label. We were also able to video two of the brewing sessions. We filmed the first year and 2013.
